Employed at the start of the commissioning phase of the Ocean Alliance to join a team of engineers to commission all machinery and systems on this drilling vessel. I was employed to be the night shift Commissioning engineer with responsibility for the continuation and progression of all commissioning activities and the monitoring and maintenance of all running equipment and systems. Examples of the types of machinery and systems to be commissioned were: 6 Crossley Pielstick Diesel generator, 8 Schottell Thrustors; 2 vertical fire tube steam generators, drilling equipment and all associated systems - hydraulics, pneumatics etc. During my shift I was also responsible for the approval, or otherwise, of any Hot Work which may have been required within those areas controlled by the commissioning department; a 'Permit to Work' system being employed. I had charge of a team of two Commissioning Engineers, two Senior Marine (Watchkeeper Supervisors), one Superintendent a Chargehand and twenty four Fitters. 1985 & 1986 Gota Verken Arendal Sweden.RESPONSIBILITIES: Field Engineer for the Balmoral FPV - GVA 5000 Floating Production Vessel.
Owner representative through the construction, commissioning and sea trails of a purpose built Floating Production Vessel. Responsible for the supervision of the monitoring and inspection of vendor equipment packages on receipt at site, the preservation and maintenance , installation and commissioning of these packages and other mechanical equipment in the production, drilling, diving and vessel systems i.e power generation, ballast, bilge, firewater, H.V.A.C. etc. Throughout the construction I was particularly responsible for: A. The Comex/Seaforth 12 man Saturation Diving System. B. The Power Generation System - Ruston Gas Turbines and Nohab Diesel drivers with GEC AC generators. C. The Propulsion System of four Kamewa Thrusters. D. Rotating equipment and Hydraulics in all systems including Sub-Sea equipment as installed in the FPV. 1978 Yarrow Shipbuilders Glasgow.HMS BATTLEAXE Appointed during the ships construction, to witness and approve the installation, test and trials of machinery.
